In support to the hardwork and efforts of the Filipino farmers despite the whopping decrease of copra prices, the fresh coconut juice will be the official energy drink of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa, said Manny Pinol, Department of Agriculture Secretary.

Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones today gladly approved the request of coconut farmers for the buko water to be designated as the Energy Drink of this year’s Palarong Pambansa to be held in Davao City last week of April, ” said Sec Pinol in his FB post today, April 15, 2019.

In the letter of Sec Pinol to the Sec Briones dated April 12, 2019, he said that “The introduction of the buko as the official energy drink of the Palaro will be a big boost to the spirit of our coconut farmers and will also contribute to the marketing efforts of the DA for this health drink which has been taken for granted for so long.”

As part of the goal of giving income to the millions of coco farmers in the face of lowest prices of coco selling history, the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) have intensified the promotion of  buko juices as the prime provider of health benefits.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) and the City Government of Davao have already inked the memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the hosting of the 2019 Palarong Pambansa on April 27 to May 4.  This year’s Palarong Pambansa theme will be “Shaping the Future through Sports.”
